Getting started

Adding a child or dependant

Book and manage care for children and family members who rely on you, from your own account.

Who you can add

You can add children for whom you are a parent or legal guardian. You can also add an adult who has asked you to help manage their care, such as an elderly parent, where they agree or you have the legal authority to act for them.

How to add a dependant

  1. Sign in and open the Family section of your account.
  2. Choose to add a family member and enter their name, date of birth and relationship to you.
  3. Add their medical aid details if they are a dependant on a plan.
  4. Confirm that you have the authority to manage their care, then save.

What you can do for a dependant

Once added, you can choose their name whenever you book. Depending on the access you have been given, you can:

  • Book, reschedule and cancel their appointments.
  • Receive their appointment reminders on your phone.
  • Answer pre-visit questions on their behalf.
  • View documents and records that their practice has shared.

Older children and young adults

South African law allows children from the age of 12 to consent to certain health services themselves, depending on their maturity. In those situations, a clinician may not share some information with a parent or guardian.

When a dependant turns 18, they are entitled to manage their own health information. They can create their own account and decide whether you should keep access. Contact support if you need help with this change.

Note: Practices may ask you to confirm your relationship to a child, especially at a first visit. This protects children's health information.
