Requesting access to or correction of your information (POPIA)
Your rights under the Protection of Personal Information Act, and how to make a request.
Your rights
Under the Protection of Personal Information Act (POPIA), you have the right to:
- Ask whether we hold personal information about you, and receive a copy of it.
- Ask for information that is inaccurate, out of date or incomplete to be corrected.
- Ask for information to be deleted where we are no longer allowed or required to keep it.
- Object to certain processing, including direct marketing.
- Withdraw consent you have given.
- Complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa.
How to make a request
- Sign in and open the privacy section of your account, then choose to make a data request.
- Choose the type of request: access, correction, deletion or objection, and describe what you need.
- We may ask you to confirm your identity before we act. This protects your information from someone pretending to be you.
- We aim to respond within 30 days. If we need longer, we tell you why and when to expect an answer.
Without an account
Email our privacy team from the email address linked to your account, or explain how we can recognise your record. Tell us your name, your mobile number and what you are asking for.
Who answers which request
Maatla Healthcare is responsible for your platform account information. Clinical records are the responsibility of the practice that created them. We help route requests about clinical records to the right practice, and practices can respond through Maatla Care.
Corrections to clinical records
Clinical notes are not simply overwritten. If a record is wrong, the practice adds a correction or amendment that is kept alongside the original, so the history of your care stays accurate and complete.
If you are not satisfied
Tell us first so we can try to put it right. You can also complain to the Information Regulator of South Africa at any time.
